Socential.net Marketplace now open to the public

We have successfully closed the initial pilot phase and received valuable feedback from our test users. Some of the suggested improvements have already been implemented, more are currently underway.

Everyone can now open their own social investor account on the marketplace, browse the exciting projects and make their investments and commitments.

What’s next? We are currently adding some very attractive international projects, and with this also making the marketplace available in English – this is planned for April.

So do check out www.socential.net for your chance to help make a real social impact through these innovative and sustainable projects, and thereby also see where your investment is going and what is being done with it!

Article about Socential in ceo* magazine

In the February edition of ceo* magazine, which is published in print today, there is a really good article about Socential and its two founders, Patrik Elsa and myself. Recommended reading for anyone who likes to get the idea of Socential explained in a more digestible manner (and anyone who wants to see me and Patrik in a corporate jungle environment :-) )!

Here are the links to the extracted pages in English and German of the current edition.

        New social innovation research portal

We are sometimes asked if we give tips on research and publications on different topics related to social entrepreneurship, and are often able to provide relevant material out of our knowledge base. Now the Stanford Center for Social Innovation has opened a new research portal which will hopefully satisfy those of us hungry for more knowledge on the topic: http://csi.gsb.stanford.edu/research-by-topic

Social entrepreneurship in Google’s Project 10^100

Project 10100 is a call for ideas to change the world by helping as many people as possible. Among many great ideas selected for the online end vote, helping social entrepreneurs to drive change is obviously our favorite. The vote ends on October 8th; whether you vote or not, the site could prove a good source of inspiration for social business ideas.

        Socential status update

Dear friends and stakeholders of Socential,

our social entrepreneurship marketplace initiative has entered into an exciting phase: the setting up of a pilot version featuring some of the leading Swiss social entrepreneurs and their new projects – planned for launch on January 1st 2010.

The rigorous work out into our business planning in the first half of 2009 is now proving valuable, as we are seeing that we have the right market focus as well as an implementation plan making sure we stay on track in terms of what needs to be done.

The technical solution is currently being developed by our trusted technology partner Astina, and we’re also thrilled to have been able to engage a very competent and dedicated firm for our corporate re-design, virtuallyhandmade, to give us a new, more professional look, including the web design of the to-be online marketplace.

On the communications side, we’re increasingly making efforts to reach out to further stakeholders – at the same time, more and more players in the social market are reaching out to us to discuss opportunities in the exiting field of social entrepreneurship. In this context, we’re also keen to give due credit to our social investors, partners, and advisors – as you will see on the updated website – without these people and organizations, we wouldn’t have come this far, and certainly not in this short period of time. The continued commitment of PricewaterhouseCoopers has been crucial to provide the time as well as expertise to keep us going strong through this phase. Further, the financial support granted by Avina Stiftung has enabled us to make some of the necessary investments for implementing the service.

In this rather intensive phase, we’re hoping to be able to give you more frequent updates on our progress, as well as posting notes on relevant market developments and trends. So stay tuned!

        Linus & Patrik
